There are many recipes that want to be made in different colors, but do not want to use food color. Some natural food colors can be made at home. Food colors prepared at home with fruits and vegetables are much better than synthetic food colors and also health-safe.

Colors can be prepared in two ways, first as liquid and second as powder. They can be added to gravy, squash, cakes, pastries, cookies, ice cream, smoothies, jalebi, pasta, rice, macaroni, sweet dishes, mathri-namkeen etc. Liquid dyes can be made in small quantities and stored in the refrigerator for about 15 days to one month and the powder for 2-3 months. When the powder color is to be used, mix it with some lukewarm water and use it.

Orange food color


Peel the orange carrots and grind them finely in a grinder with some water. Then filter the pulp with a sieve and separate the juice. Boil this juice with 2 cups of water until it remains half. Cool it and store it in the fridge.


Thinly chop the orange carrots and dry them in the sun or microwave. When there is no moisture left, grind it finely. Then filter it using a sieve and take out the fine powder.

Red or pink color


Boil the beetroot with water on medium heat so that the beets melt. Mash it with a spoon and sieve its juice. Adding a little beetroot color will give pink color and red color if added a little more.


Peel the beets and grate them or cut them thinly. Spread on a plate or dry in a shade or microwave. Grind to powder when it becomes hard.

yellow color


Boil about 1-2 teaspoons of turmeric with 2 cups of water until the water remains half. Cool it and store it in the fridge. If making a color for a cupcake like dessert, boil it with 1/3 cup of sugar.


Turmeric powder is the best choice for dried yellow. Apart from this, soak 12-15 leaves of saffron in a little lukewarm water for 20 minutes for quick color preparation. After filtering the yellow color will be ready.

green colour


Put chopped spinach leaves and a little water in the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes. When the spinach is melted, grind it in a mixer and strain it. Green color is ready. If desired, add a little water to the juice and cook until the mixture is halved.


Wash spinach, bathua, green coriander leaves and dry them in air. Dry these leaves in the microwave and grind them finely. Drying in the sun can make their color lighter.

Purple and blue

Cook the blue barries in water so that the mixture is cooked and halved. Then mash the pulp and filter the juice and store it in the fridge. At the same time, adding 1/4 tbsp of baking soda in 1/2 bowl purple color will make blue color.


While making liquid color, remove the juice of fruits and vegetables and cook with water on low flame so that it is half cooked. Preparing in this way will not spoil the color quickly.
